Hertfordshire (Other and North London) • Re: Latymer lowest score to pass the first round

Agree with previous posts. Very few will likely move in (a couple of handfuls). It potentially and unnecessarily pushes out very able in catchment kids, who would be invested in the school, without even looking at their English. They should increase their cut off going forward if this year becomes a mess (with these OOC numbers it may well do). This year may be slightly different with private school VAT, with more OOC committed to moving in, but who knows anything at this stage. Best of luck to all.
I’m having trouble understanding how limiting 700 out-of-catchment (OOC) candidates affects in-catchment applicants. For instance, if 300 OOC candidates are not allowed to take the exam, in-catchment students would likely make up most of the top ranks. Let’s say 400 in-catchment candidates rank high. Since not all parents will choose Latymer as their first preference on the CAF, and only 192 top-ranked students (who select Latymer as their first choice) will receive offers, do we really think that students who weren’t initially ranked within the top 400 have a realistic chance of being offered a spot?

Could someone clarify if I’m misunderstanding something here?
