Reality is, at secondary level, there is a limited choice of private schools in the area; it does not have the rich reputational and varied supply of, say, Berkshire or Surrey where private schools are plentiful and fees range from almost-affordable to stratospheric. The results are not strong enough and the positive discrimination supported by Russell Group universities is too established (for all indies) to warrant the fees and I say that as the biggest fan of private schools...and as somebody who sacrificed living in the best place on earth to be in a grammar catchment. Also, a likely incoming Labour govt. means that fees will increase and likely by an incremental 5% each year for the next four years in addition to standard above-inflation rises.
