11 PLUS APPEALS • Unsuccessful Selection Review STTS: 119 in Bucks.

Afternoon All,

SR failed at 119 for bucks.

Considering option to appeal but chances of success are undeniably low and establishing if process was FCO is not straightforward or even possible?!!

STT scores :
Verbal - 123
Maths - 120
Non Verbal - 110

Head teacher support : 2:2

Key Stage Progress Report Year 5 : Reading/Writing/Maths - ALL has met (EXS)
Predicted performace end of Year 6 : Reading ( 100 - 109), Writing ( Has met ( EXS), Maths ( 110 - 120)

Academic Evidence ( WISC-V assessment) --> Full Scale IQ was in the very high range (FSIQ = 123), falling on the 94th percentile.

Extenutating Circumstances Evidence :
- 3 house moves in last 3 years ( Evidence provided) - Routines heavily impacted
- Travelling to school out of county in last year
- 2 Younger siblings born over last 4 years ( Health issues with digestion evidence provided)
- Stressful family dynamic
- Started Menstrul cycle 6 months prior to exam and the day after the exam ( So child wasnt their usual self affected concentration).

Panel Findings and decision

1. The student did not qualify in two elements of the test. The academic evidence over time does not support grammar school suitability.
2. The extenuating circumstances evidence provided does not demonstrate that the circumstances set out significantly affected the test score.

Summary :

- The panel findings at a glance seem reasonable but equally maybe potentially unreasonable? Its all very subjective obviously.
- Should we be able to prove the process was not FCO then the school are also willing to provide more evidence and the teacher has recently highlighted child is on track for greater depths for Maths and English by the time of the SATs

Question :

- Any thoughts and direction on the findings from the panel and plausability of an appeal? Other then to appeal and give it a shot I would like to think this through and be realistic whilst equally scrutinising any potential oversights the SR may have attributed to the unsuccessful result.

Thank you
