does anyone else get irritated seeing all the posts about people moving house? Also how can you realistically move and be in by 1st Nov - so you'll move within 2 weeks.. ??

This has gone nuts. It's bad enough that the "in-catchment" areas are sometimes 12.5 miles, hardly a local school for local children are they. But then genuine local children and parents have to put up with an influx of parents suddenly moving into catchment. Out of nowhere. Renting properties, keeping their original property.

Beware though councils now look out for this! As its a total game of the system, and unless it's a genuine move that was already in the pipeline, it will most likely be considered a fraudulent application
Depends.

Yes some people play the game and some Win. Unfair, yes, but it's life and people will always do it. I know of several examples of the game playing. Do i agree with it. Absolutely not. Ideally we should all have similar levels of access in our own areas, but that is not real life.

With regards to catchment area, OOC coming in etc. I find it comical that people complain about OOC kids/parents. In reality the only reason why the schools over time are doing so well is because of the influx of OOC children and many OOC who then become IC or parents coming in to be IC. These children are raising the standards. The Rise in standards is why many of the IC parents want to go to a particular school. The rise in standards is why in many years the IC candidates don't even get he minimum 303. You cannot have it both ways, want great standards but then dont want the drivers for the standards. Look at the non-Grammar schools. same IC children but look at the results. day and night difference. If all grammar schools were for IC, there would be a significant drop in standards over time as the standards would get diluted to cater for the lowest common denominator.

If you still want local schools for local children, then lots of schools available. BUT if you want great schools for local children then 80% seats is far more than generous than what the IC get. What you need to do is increase the STANDARDS of the local Primary as many IC places not even filled. The local primary is a good example of what you want.. "Local" then you cannot be surprised at how well the local children do compared to the OOC.

So thank some of the OOC parents for keeping the standards high ;-)
