+1 for that advice.
Can your DC swim well? A very good use of the year 6-7 summer holiday is to pick up life skills which are useful for the secondary years:
Swimming crash course (every day for a week, ask at your local leisure centre)
How to check train timetable: buy a train ticket /get on a train
How to look up bus routes on GoogleMaps/ find a bus stop/buy a bus ticket/ride a bus
How to cook simple food safely (sandwiches/ cheese on toast, fishfinger sandwich/ noodles/stirfry)
How to shop on a budget (eg give child £10 and ask to buy food from shop for a picnic type lunch and prepare it, then go out together and eat it)
First aid (online or in person or website)
How to call 999 and what to say if an accident/emergency occurs.
The GS will take in children from lots of different primaries and they will assume that everyone has different levels of experience in different subjects. They don’t prefer “pre-learning” (and if they did, would give you recommended sources).
Let them enjoy the settling-in activities from the school, and if you must find something for the summer, ask the school themselves directly!
