Would agree with Aethel.
If he has just been diagnosed, have any accommodations been suggested, such as the ones Aethel mentioned? You may need to push the school hard to get them, but they may a big difference.
There’s a lot of overlap in traits for adhd and autism, and often also occur together. There might also be other ND conditions lurking. If there’s one there’s usually more than one.
Have meds been considered? I know some parents/children may be against them (and there can be some stigma to taking them) and they aren’t for everyone, but may be worth a shot. They aren’t a wonder cure all. My DD was diagnosed in 1 st year of uni. The accommodations were sorted straight away (seems unis may be much better at this than some schools). She made the decision to try meds and they help her a lot dealing with the attention/focus. It can take a while to get the right one and the right dose, so needs some time.
Undiagnosed autism and ADHD often causes a raft of issues such as anxiety and depression, plus burnout. It’s hard work trying to fit in, (masking). DD has had issues with both as a result. She’s also been told she scored highly on the screening test for autism and should get assessed for that, but she hasn’t bothered since she don’t feel she needed the official diagnosis for that as she didn’t really gain from it.
