Another one here with a DD who wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until first year of uni: looking back the inability to plan revision, issues with focus on the less loved subjects… all suddenly made sense. She wasn’t dyslexic….but as tinkers says, neurodiversities often do cluster due to the genetic aspect.
My DD2 had dyslexia diagnosed at 10 after years of being told by school she was “just young for the year” and her and us getting increasingly frustrated. It’s common for the capable ones to mask… but if not supported it definitely hinders them, my DD2 came on in leaps and bounds with the (eventual) good school support.
If you have any concerns about your 12 year old save up the pennies for an independent dyslexia assessment : go on the BDA (British dyslexia association) website and they have a list of linked centres/assessors in each area.
It costs £500-£700 depending on where you live but honestly it was the best money we ever spent.
