Same here, I have heard many people speak so positively about STR. And we left the open evening in Year 5 convinced this would be the school we were aiming for. Pate’s has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works for me really, I seem to change my mind every hour or so about which one to choose. Thanks Irnbrulou, glad to know I’m not the only one. I spoke to a neighbour whose boy is thriving in STRs and who had nothing but praise for the school academics and pastoral care, so it’s so hard to judge! Most of the people in my neighbourhood opt for STR as the boy school of choice, and one neighbour’s daughter opted to move there for sixth form after SHS.
Yes!! I felt exactly the same, I was hoping for so much more as I’m incredibly torn between here and Pate’s. Felt really disappointed that there was no talk and no staff to speak to. My son loved STR but we visited in year 5 and now making the comparisons is really difficult.
After a long evening deliberating though, husband and I have decided that co-ed would be a better fit for our boy, so will opt for Crypt (I loved the energy of the staff and pupils there. Sue the admissions officer is also the most organised and helpful out of the others I’ve encountered!). We just have to try and convince him of that over STR
I do think co-ed might be a better fit for my son too. Can I ask was there anything particular that stopped you choosing Pate’s?
Glad to hear you are now closer to a decision though and good look convincing your son
