I couldn’t agree more. It’s this borderline (for this school) result making me on edge but honestly to get qualifying scores means they’ve done better than the majority and that’s amazing for all that are in a position to apply to a grammar school. We went to Sutton girls yesterday and of course she loved it but I reiterated it’s her first choice because it’s closest. If QMHS was on our doorstep it would be first choice. Not much in it in terms of the schools themselves. Yes results are slightly better at Sutton but cut off is higher so makes sense and the results are excellent at any grammar school imo. DD going to QMHS with MIL tomorrow so they can compare having both gone with me yesterday to Sutton. It’s literally logistics making us prefer Sutton (she’s just got Sutton into her head from what we’ve said) but QM only an extra 15 mins away so not really an issue. I think I’m more concerned about her feeling disappointed not getting her first choice because her brother did (BVGS) however, (mean as it sounds) they’ve got to learn to deal with life’s ups and downs. It’s not a failure just a change of plan. These are all bright kids who will succeed no matter what Image may be NSFW.That’s a very interesting article, thanks for that. When I googled the low birth rate / 11plus, I couldn’t find anything at all, but it sounds positive there’s a possibility the cut offs might go down.
I think we are more stressed due to them getting borderline scores (for Sutton), so the unknown aspect is the stress. The best thing would be to take her to QMHS and make it sound very positive if she ended up going there. Ultimately they’ve all done really well and even if they don’t get Sutton, at least they are almost definitely going to get a grammar school place and will do well wherever the end up.
