I believe schools have a good sense of how many students typically qualify each year. Since many children apply to multiple schools, boards, or regions but can only select one as their first choice, the Local Authorities will offer them a spot at that preferred school. Once they accept, any other spots they qualified for become available for other students, creating a sort of 'sliding up' process. For instance, not all of the top 180 students who qualify for a school like Wilson’s will necessarily choose it as their first preference. Hope that clarifies things!Thank you very much for the helpful information.
I don't see the point of giving 'qualified' emails to 670 kids when they have 180-ish seats to spare. They have the standardised score. They know clearly how many have a bright/slight chance. There are many ways to solve this problem. They are just insensitive towards parents who are planning to relocate. Even this could have solved by making it a closed catchment school. disappointing.
