Hertfordshire (South West) • Re: CI list movement 2024

As hermanmunster says - you have to do that.

- My friends DID put Parmiters as 1st choice
- They were allocated their 3rd choice on 1st March.
- Got 2nd choice off the CI list in April - went and bought uniform (thankfully, exchangeable Image may be NSFW.

)
- Got a call from Parmiters in July, just before the end of the summer term
Thanks thisisnuts and hermanmunster, this is very helpful.

We were getting in a confused mess about how to proceed. One thing we worried about was if we put Parmiter's 1st choice, and maybe SCD second, then a non-grammar school 3rd, would the non-grammar school basically be given to people who had put it 1st or 2nd. If that were the case, and we were unsuccessful at the grammars, we might end up missing out on our favourite non-grammar.

After posting here yesterday, I emailed an admissions officer and asked all our questions, and this morning I got a very helpful reply from them. Here is a quote from it, in case it's helpful to others:
The preference order has no bearing on the likely hood of you being allocated a place at that school and no priority is given to a family that has added a school as preference 1 as opposed to you maybe adding it as preference 3. If we are able to allocate a place at one of your preference schools, all preferences below the allocated school place will be automatically discarded and your son wouldn’t be added to those schools continuing interest waiting list. Many Hertfordshire secondary schools will not accept new applications to be added until the second round of continuing interest (31.3.25 – 11.4.25.)

Applicants can accept the allocated school place and will automatically be added to the continuing interest waiting list for any higher unmet preference schools, you should note that if you remain on the continuing interest waiting lists, if we are able to allocate a place at a higher preference during the 2 continuing interest rounds, the place is auto allocated and we will not call you to check if you would like us to allocate the higher preference. When a higher preference is allocated the original allocation is automatically withdrawn and give to the next child on the waiting list.

To summarise, you should order your preferences in order of which school, you would most to least like to be allocated a place at. All children are automatically in Hertfordshire added to the continuing interest waiting lists and will remain on the list until a parent requests removal or the process ends and lists are cleared on 23.7.2025. Secondary schools are not aware of which preference number they are for each child’s application.
So, this confirms all that you have helpfully said here. Thanks very much for that. We know what to do now. Image may be NSFW.
